Montenegro is one of Europe’s hidden gems… but for how much longer? Independent since 2006, the country has been quietly developing its fledgling tourism industry and is now being vaunted as one of the continent’s hottest new destinations.
A major part of this development has focused on the country’s airports. In days past, the easiest access was via Dubrovnik Airport in neighbouring Croatia which is of course, well serviced across Europe. The down side however, was the long(er) drive and of course, border formalities. Still a good option, Dubrovnik is only 16km (10 miles) north of Montenegro’s border and the journey door to door takes approximately 90 minutes (pending immigration and customs formalities at the border).
But if you prefer to cut out the border formalities, direct flights into Montenegro are now much easier to come by. The most recent addition providing direct access to Montenegro is Easy Jet’s direct flight from Manchester to Tivat. Add this to Montenegro Airlines direct flight from Gatwick. In fact Montenegro airlines provides flights to Montenegro departing from various European capitals (Belgrade, Moscow, Paris, Rome and Vienna) year-round for not only Tivat Airport, but also Podgorica Airport. Summer months can of course, see an increase in flights.
